Avery rare pair of Briitish WW2 climbing breeches.

These were used by specialist mountain troops and were also issued to the SAS and also the SOE attached commando units in Italy and Yugosalvia.
Also worn by 52nd Division. They dont come up very often at all, and I have only seen one other pair in the last two or three years.

These are in lovely condition with no mothing or holes anywhere and are very little worn.

Who knows what stories these breeches can tell??

Dated 1943 (wartime). Perfect for serious collectors, World War II reenactors or for media screen costume. These "climbing breeches" are distinguished by their wide thighs and tapered calves, a design created for maximum movement and comfort while traversing rugged terrain on secret mountainous missions.

A seldom-offered piece in remarkable condition, highly coveted by serious collectors, with specialist SAS mountain troops association, and surviving numbers make them exceptionally rare and valuable to collectors.

  • Authentic British Army climbing breeches issued in 1943 for mountain and specialist troops.
  • Original manufacturer’s label present, noting Size No. 2 and correct period instructions.
  • Recognizable high-waisted, wide-thigh, and tapered-calf silhouette for practical movement over rough ground.
  • Very heavy cloth twill, almost a corduroy, robust construction; all original buttons and hardware intact, just missing a fly button and I think a braces button may have been moved to the outer?
  • The calves fasten with a metal buckle and strap.

Measurements on label size no.2.

  • 5'3" - 5'5" height.
  • 32" - 34" waist.
  • 30" - 40" breech.
  • 25" length.

Condition: Very good solid condition, a few marks on the seat as to be expected and leg as shown in images. A fly button is missing and maybe waist braces button, I'm unsure because there appear to be random buttons on the outer back, so they may have just been relocated.

SIZING

Vintage sizing is very different to modern day sizes, they’re  usually smaller depending on the era of manufacture. So to ensure a good fit please go by the measurements provided. I measure the garment laid flat edge to absolute edge then double, which give the maximum, you will need to measure your own clothes to compare sizing.

To compare measurements with sizes click the Size Comparison Chart below the listing information.

Online shopping does create challenges in this respect, so if you have your heart set on a very specific type of colour or shade, in order to avoid disappointment, please contact us first so we can try and provide more information regarding the item you're interested in.  We do not offer refunds for differing colour perceptions.

Caring for vintage

All our vintage items are individually selected for their quality and style. Vintage items may come with minor flaws due to pre-loved wear, bearing in mind 'vintage' means older than 20 years, 'antique' means over 100 years old.

As with all vintage the number one rule is take care!

The garments will likely be over 20 years old or even 120 years old so please bear that in mind when dressing and handling. The older/antique items do require very careful handling as natural products used in the cottons and fabrics are more susceptible to natural wear and becoming fragile.

Hand-wash when you can, gently will cool water and special detergent designed for vintage clothing. Leave to soak overnight, do not wring or spin. Use a towel to wrap and soak up most of the water.

Be mindful that most of the older fabrics will not react well to washing machines or dry cleaning, unless they are a specialist cleaner.

With suits and outerwear, dry brush and lightly steam.

Steaming is good for most vintage, the steam kills bacteria and smells, then you can give it a brush afterwards.

To deodorise - we use a special mix of alcohol and anti bacterial essences, our own brand. Message if you want to buy a bottle. It also doubles as a hand sanitiser.
