Vintage tailor made three piece suit, made by a quality military outfitters L Wallis, Bath by appointment Saville Row. 1950s/60s in a smart grey wool cloth with a tiny dogtooth weave. Perfect for the office. It comprises of; single breasted jacket, high waist trousers with twin pleats, turn ups, back belt and zip fly fastening. 4 pocket waistcoat. This suit is in a long tall size and was owned by a high ranking officer of the RAF but it does have a few issue, it's not pristine by any means.

It's old and was worn a lot so inevitable it has issues, so please examine all the pix, I have included lots and highlighted issues as best I can, see condition below and the blog post re stain removal. Please note I took the main listing photos before I did the stain removal, you can see the afterwards image on the one with the text..

  • Take a look at the blog post for before and after pix as I used natural cleaning methods to remove a trouser sweat stain from inside leg. They did a good job but if you scrutinise you will see it's very, very faintly not entirely gone. But is barely visible although if you didn't know I don't think you would notice. View Blog Post.
  • There's a small hole in the trouser crotch area, see pix.
  • Trouser pockets have worn edges.
  • The back waistband of trousers has been made into a notch back, I don't think it originally was and the lining has been cut but not finished off, so that needs some attention. I may get round to it but I may forget, so if you'd like me to and you wish to purchase then please prompt me.
  • The hook trouser closure is rusted and has left rust marks on the waist.
  • The trouser back belt clasp is also discoloured and aged.
  • The lining of jacket is also showing signs of wear, particularly near the breast inside pocket.
  • There's a few stitches loose under the sleeve arm of jacket.

About vintage condition

All our vintage items are individually selected for their quality and style. Vintage items may come with minor flaws due to pre-loved wear, bearing in mind 'vintage' means older than 20 years, 'antique' means over 100 years old.

Colour Disclaimer

We have done our best to describe the colours and shades of the fabric, clothes and products listed here, but because monitors vary in the display of colour differently and some descriptive terms used for shades of colour can be perceived and interpreted differently, depending on the viewer, we cannot be held responsible if you receive something and the colour doesn't look how you envisioned it would.

Online shopping does create challenges in this respect, so if you have your heart set on a very specific type of colour or shade, in order to avoid disappointment, please contact us first so we can try and provide more information regarding the item you're interested in.  We do not offer refunds for differing colour perceptions.

Caring for vintage

As with all vintage the number one rule is take care!

The garments will likely be over 20 years old or even 120 years old so please bear that in mind when dressing and handling. The older/antique items do require very careful handling as natural products used in the cottons and fabrics are more susceptible to natural wear and becoming fragile.

Hand-wash when you can, gently will cool water and special detergent designed for vintage clothing. Leave to soak overnight, do not wring or spin. Use a towel to wrap and soak up most of the water.

Be mindful that most of the older fabrics will not react well to washing machines or dry cleaning, unless they are a specialist cleaner.

With suits and outerwear, dry brush and lightly steam.

Steaming is good for most vintage, the steam kills bacteria and smells, then you can give it a brush afterwards.

To deodorise - we use a special mix of alcohol and anti bacterial essences, our own brand. Message if you want to buy a bottle. It also doubles as a hand sanitiser.
