1970s Vintage Designer Phillip Somerville Straw Hat • Summer Hat
This is a wonderful stylish straw Summer hat from the 1970s by the fabulous designer, Phillip Somerville. With a typical deep crown and wide brim, the hat is decorated with a beige shiny vinyl flower, fringing and band around the base of the crown. The weave is beautiful and fine and smooth, with a shiny almost silky sheen to it. The brim edge is folded and stitched to conceal a structural wire.
”Philip Somerville is one of today’s best known milliners and was awarded the Royal Warrant – Milliner to the Queen in 1995. Established in 1972, Philip Somerville began as a wholesale supplier to high end department stores in London and New York, such as Harrods and Bergdorf Goodman. In 1987, he opened his hat salon in Bond Street for private clients”. Credit: vintagefashionguild

If they're likely to have attracted a moth then they go straight in the freezer for a few days to kill eggs, this is especially so with fur.
We describe these items to the best of our ability. We check each item carefully and will try to list any notable flaws. These are vintage items and wear consistent with age is normal and should be expected.

As with all vintage the number one rule is take care!
The garments will likely be over 20 years old or even 120 years old so please bear that in mind when dressing and handling. The older/antique items do require very careful handling as natural products used in the cottons and fabrics are more susceptible to natural wear and becoming fragile.
Hand-wash when you can, gently will cool water and special detergent designed for vintage clothing. Leave to soak overnight, do not wring or spin. Use a towel to wrap and soak up most of the water.
Be mindful that most of the older fabrics will not react well to washing machines or dry cleaning, unless they are a specialist cleaner.
With suits and outerwear, dry brush and lightly steam.
Steaming is good for most vintage, the steam kills bacteria and smells, then you can give it a brush afterwards.
To deodorise - we use a special mix of alcohol and anti bacterial essences, our own brand. Message if you want to buy a bottle. It also doubles as a hand sanitiser.

We have done our best to describe and illustrate the colours and shades of the fabric, clothes and products listed here, but because the colour of the light changes with the weather and seasons, and monitors vary in the display of colour differently, some descriptive terms used for shades of colour can be perceived and interpreted differently, depending on the viewer, we cannot be held responsible if you receive something and the colour doesn't look how you envisioned it would.
Online shopping does create challenges in this respect, so if you have your heart set on a very specific type of colour or shade, in order to avoid disappointment, please contact us first so we can try and provide more information regarding the item you're interested in. We do not offer refunds for differing colour perceptions.
Vintage sizing is very different to modern day sizes, they usually are often smaller depending on the era of manufacture.
So to ensure a good fit please go by the measurments provided. I measure the garment laid flat edge to absolute edge then double, which give the maximum, you will need to measure your own clothes to compare sizing.
You will also need to give yourself room to move, i.e. a size to fit 40" chest jacket for example will most likely measure 42" or more. Or if you are ladies 38" bust then the garment will most likely measure 39" or more depending on the cut and style.
Please bear that in mind if it is meant to be worn loose or hang straight you will need to factor that in.
If you have any questions please ask as all sales are final.
